PIAGGIO GREAVES TO ROLL OUT NEW 3 WHEELER IN `99
Article Abstract:
Piaggio Greaves Vehicles Ltd (PGVL), the 51:49 joint venture between Piaggio and Greaves, will launch the first of its three wheelers in early 1999. The product will be a diesel three seater which will convert into a half ton cargo carrier, and will have an 8.5 horse power diesel engine. It will give around 35 kilometres (km) to a litre of diesel. PGVL is expected to launch its other two vehicles by 2000 AD while one of them is a six seater passenger vehicle with a 750 kg cargo version, the other is a four wheeler derived one tonne vehicle. Both will have 13 to 14 horse power powered engines. The Rs34 crore PGVL has created modular capacities for the assembly of up to 40,000 three seater vehicles and its cargo version which can be increased. Exports during the first year are projected to be marginal with the company focusing on establishing itself in the domestic market. Capacity utilisation is expected to be 80 percent. PGVL is to become the centre for all of Piaggio's markets other than Europe. (tsm)

GREAVES TO DIVEST NON-CORE BUSINESSES

Greaves Limited plans to become a global player in the internal combustion engine segment by divesting in some of its existing non-core businesses. These businesses include construction equipment, industrial gear boxes, mining bits, power generation equipment and medium to large horse power engines. The resources generated from the divestment will be invested in Greaves' area of core competence. (gsh)

CROMPTON GREAVES LAUNCHES AC GENERATORS
Article Abstract:
The Rs1,550 crore Crompton Greaves has introduced a new series of high performance AC generators in the five KVA to 100 KVA range. The company proposes to enhance its market share from 20 percent to 30 percent in the five KVA to 200 KVA AC generators and from 30 percent to 35 percent in the 22 KVA to 1000 KVA segment. The company intends to take its turnover up to Rs2000 crore by the end of 1998-99. (uh)
